HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Dear Sister!!

Well, when it rains it pours.  And, it was raining here yesterday, so it pours visitors!!  I am SO excited!!  As you all know, my parents were her a week and a half ago.  Mostly TOTALLY enjoyable (see previous blog).  We ended the week with a 1 night for them-2 night for Brent and I stay in Vegas.  My mom's favorite place on earth....bahahaha...I say that with the highest of uses of sarcasm.  When my parents left (tear), Brent and I stayed Saturday night.  It was mostly great..oh, except for when Brent disappeared for 6 hours with a dead cell phone and..if I may quote myself....To: My mom:  "He better be dead, cause if he isn't, I'm going to kill him when I find him....".  End quote.  He wasn't dead and still isn't...he's a lucky man.....more on that some other time.

Anyway, Sunday we got to have lunch with Nathan and Tammy!!  That was awesome since I haven't gotten to really talk to them let alone really see them since....mine and Brent's "wedding"..."reception/party".  So, even if we have to meet halfway across the country, we still will meet!!!  Then, Sunday, we headed home...on a 6 1/2 hr drive that is supposed to take 4....oh well, I couldn't complain as right before we left, I stuck $50 in my FAVORITE penny machine and cashed out with $700...thank GOD!!

Ok...back to pouring visitors.  So, this Saturday, Staci Ball (awesome friend from Centralia) is coming to visit!!!  She'll be here until next Wednesday!  Woohoo!!!  Then, the Monday following, Patty and Dawn (Brent's sister and mommy) will be here for the week.  The next week, we are off (although accepting applications for visitors).  The week after that, an AWESOME couple friend from KC (Jim and Kim) are coming.  They aren't staying with us, as she won a trip here in an auction, but we will hopefully get some good quality time in!!  The week following, (April) another awesome KC friend (Lindsay) has made a reservation at Chouteau Henkshe (Henke+Belshe=Henkshe...?????).

So, as you can see...enough e-begging (Facebook) and move to a cool/warm place will bring visitors-a-plenty!!...and I couldn't be more excited!!!!

As for Brent and I recently, we spent some of Saturday afternoon at a place called Griffith Observatory.  It is an awesome look-out-over-LA place where you have a much closer and unobstructed view of the HOLLYWOOD sign as well as a BEAUTIFUL view over LA.  (Sorry mom and pop, wish we would have known about it BEFORE you came...).  Anyway..they have trails that go down through the (quite steep) hills.  We were hiking down some.  Now, try to picture this.  Sicily 1931..wait, I'm not Sophia Petrillo...but do really picture this:  Carly "hiking" on a downward trail.  Ok..I have TERRIBLE balance when the world under my feet is perfectly horizontal.  Add any degree of vertical to it and I'm SCREWED!!  I have bad feet, I don't like incline (or decline) and I wasn't really loving this.  Anyway, we are going down hill down the side of these steep cliffs.  The path, I will admit, wasn't bad....almost enjoyable until...it ended.  So, Brent (my genius husband) decides we will hike STRAIGHT UP not on a trail back to where we came from.  After all, shortest route, right?  Now....I'm all for the shortest route but funny how shortest route is STRAIGHT UP!!  So, on no trail, with nothing to hold onto Brent (who has Cal Pal by the way) basically runs straight up it no problem.  He is better with the not holding onto something than me.  I on the other hand, was taking it slower, kept slipping in the mud, angry at nothing to hold onto, sweating in my fleece jacket (as it wasn't as cold as I thought outside).....FINALLY we reach the top of the hill we were "hiking" up....only to find the restaurant we had to go through was fenced in.  So here we are a mere 2 inches from people overlooking the cliff, only we are on the wrong side of this damn fence.....its about 5' tall.  I'm a tall glass of water coming in at 5' 9.5" but, its hard to fenegel over a fence that tall.  So, we should just go around, right?  WRONG.  The "around" route is right over the edge of the cliff.  A basic dropoff!!  lol.  I felt just like Lucille Ball in any I Love Lucy episode!!  Hysterical.  Probably my favorite part was that people got to watch me "hike" this damn cliff!!!  Oh...what a fun day it was.  Anyway...we ended up finding a taller place of ground so the fence was a little shorter and I hoisted Calvin to Brent and we got the hell outta there!!  lol..  People at the outside tables and chairs kept asking me where we came from!!  HAHA!!

And, we went to the Price is Right and didn't get called on...Thats all I care to say about that.  lol

Anyway..sorry this one was a drone on but, I figured I hadn't typed in a while so I could go on and on and on and on...and on.

More later!!  Love and kisses to you all!

Oh...ps...I've started watching Pushing Daisies and I HIGHLY recommend it...if you possess the ability to watch it from the beginning and to truly sit and watch it.  Its cute, quirky, and very aesthetically pleasing!!

2/17

Apparently, I have been neglecting my blogging responsibilities....or so I've been told.  I certainly apologize and you can be sure it has been with good reason.  I have been busy.  No, still not working....don't jump to conclusions...just busy with friends and visitors!!  yup....I said friends!!!  WE HAVE FRIENDS HERE!!  Our 2 friends live here in the same apartment complex and our balconies are adjacent.  They are also travel nurses and are working for the same company Brent is with and at the same hospital!!  So, needless to say, we all have a lot in common!!  One of the really great things about having friends here is that they are so nice and willing to take care of your dog for the weekend which means you and your husband can run off to Vegas for the weekend!!!  Fun, huh?!  They have dogs, too so we will be able to return the favor, I hope!!

Next week, Brent, Daniel, one other unknown person and I are going to the Price is Right!!!  We are STOKED!!  Be thinking positive thoughts of some plinko coming my way!!  Its next Wednesday so who knows when the show will air.  WOOT WOOT!!

My parents have been here this week (reason 2 I've neglected my blog, I think).  We have had a great time!!  The retirement life allowed them to decide on Tuesday they wanted to drive out last Thursday.  They arrived Sunday and are coming to Vegas for the night with us Friday, then headed the scenic route home by Wednesday.  We have gone to Sprinkles (the most amazing cupcake place ever), Venice beach, Malibu, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Hollywood Blvd, and I'm HOPING for Huntington Beach tomorrow.  I say HOPING because they (naturally) brought rain with them to LA!!  :(  And, I hear its bright and shiny in the midwest right now which is just sacrilege.  Rainy here and sunny there...figures.  I suppose they are the ones I should feel for.  Snow there, rain here...who knows when they get home!  haha!

Anyway, off to beddie bye for now.  I dearly love you all!!  More later.....

2/3

Hey blogger followers!!  I hope this one finds you warm, cozy, and not on the roads.  Here, however, the sun shines brightly and the temp holds steady at a refreshing 62.  Which is actually kinda funny that I say that as I look around this Starbucks and see most of the people here (self included) wearing jeans and sweatshirts....I bet all of you mid-westerners (self included) would be wearing shorts or at the very least capris.

I wasn't kidding when I was talking about THINKING you see movie stars EVERYWHERE here!!  I've been here for about an hour now and my eyes have told me they have seen Taye Diggs and Paul McCartney.  Also a kid I know from high school but..he's not famous....so many dopplegangers everywhere!!  haha.

I thought of another addition to my "You know you are in in LA when.." blog.  It is:  You are asked for "spare change" a hundred times a day.  Even yesterday, as I was sitting at a table inside a restaurant (with open garage-type doors and ceiling) a homeless man asked me (from outside) for spare change.  To these people:  HELL NO!!  Between the 10% tax you charge here and the parking meters that seem to have a bottomless pit of a stomach for my spare change....NO, I have none left for you.  I'm sorry!!  lol.  Thats awful, but true.  I was just telling Brent yesterday, how I bet all these homeless people were PISSED when debit cards came out.  The worst part is that you can never tell who its going to be either.  This morning, this nicely dressed woman with a full length brown coat, scarf and hat, drinking a Diet Coke from a can asked me for some spare change....?  I guess I just have that "helping hand; sweet, midwesterner" look on my face.  Or..maybe its the Missouri license plate and the topper on our truck.  haha.  Who knows?!

Anyway, my days here are filled with thrifting, driving, walking, working out, cleaning, coffeeshopping for the internet and (the most unbelieveable) cooking.  Oh, and more driving.  Brent is jealous until I tell him what I actually did that day and sees that his supper is ready and his bed is made and then is happy again.

Oh, funny story.  Last night on our way back up from the hot tub, Brent and I noticed our neighbor's keys were in her door.  So, I rapped on the door to tell her and when she opened it, three dogs came RUNNING OUT!  Then, because Brent had opened our door, Calvin came bounding out as well.  So, these four dogs were in the hallway smelling butts and growling and being curious.  Anyway, one of the dogs was a labradoodle puppy.  ADORABLE!!  We starting chatting and petting her dog and come to find out...she is a dog trainer!!  She said the little labradoodle (Reginald) was up for adoption if we wanted him.  HAha.  I told her since we were travel nursing, probably not a great idea.  But, (and I'm sorta unclear how this whole part went down, what with the happy hour Brent and I went to and the beer/wine we drank in the hot tub) but we ended up baby-sitting him for the evening for this young lady, so she could get some sleep.  haha.  He IS absolutely the cutest dog ever (next to Cal Pal) and so sweet.  He IS NOT potty trained or name trained like she said.  Atleast not with us.  So, he ended up being taken outside 5 times more than Calvin's 1 time and peeing in our apartment 4 times more than Carly.  haha.  Anyway, in one of his unsuccessful outsidings, a nice couple came up and asked Brent "how much!!!"   Not "how cute" or "for adoption?".  "HOW MUCH!?"  So, we got their info and passed it on to little Reginald's foster mommy.  Good luck to them all!!

Anyway, off for now.  I love you and miss you all dearly!!

More later.
